Flaunt Your Curves

Picking the right style of clothes when you’re a plus sized woman can be difficult, but today there is a lot of choice in the plus size ranges of clothing so you don’t have to worry about looking frumpy or unfashionable; you can work flaunt those curves with confidence!

Plus size women have more to consider in the fashion stakes, but realistically it’s just about wearing flattering shapes and balancing out your figure. Instead of trying to squeeze into the latest trends (after all when did wet look leggings look good on anyone anyway?) it’s sometimes best to find the trends that work for you and invest in them instead.

Prints and patterns can be a godsend for larger ladies; they can help disguise problem areas in a flattering way. Try on a few prints to see what works for you and don’t be afraid to try something new!

The key to dressing for your shape is to learn how to balance your body. If you’re top heavy, wearing darker colours on your top half can help minimize your bust, while brighter colour or pattern on your bottom half can help balance out your figure. The opposite applies for those with larger hips or a bigger bottom. Clever designs like an empire line or ruching can also help o disguise problem areas like a larger belly or wide hips. If you have broad shoulders you can balance these out with a full skirt or a one shouldered top or dress.

You can disguise lumps and bumps with the help of control underwear – it’s not for everyday of course but for special occasions it’s certainly worth the investment to help create a smooth silhouette underneath your clothes.

There are a range of retailers such as K & Co who now have specific ranges catering for plus sized women, so at least you don’t have to worry about choice!

Hiding the Flaws

Hiding away a fuller figure in baggy clothes will only make you look bigger. Enhancing your assets and hiding your flaws, however, will work wonders on your figure. There are a few simple ways to hide your imperfections and such tips will make you feel both confident and comfortable in what you wear as opposed to self-conscious and shy!

Full skirts are a great way to hide that extra tummy bulge. Invest in a fuller skirt that sits at the smallest part of your waist in order to hide any flaws below the gathered fabric. For best results, purchase a skirt that finishes at the knees as this will create the most flattering silhouette

High-waisted panties are another great investment for any woman’s wardrobe, especially if you possess a fuller figure. The high-waisted briefs will create a smooth line from your legs onwards, instead of cutting your mid section in two.

Creative camisoles are also a great choice for women with fuller figures and can be layered under any one of this season’s must-have dresses, or alternatively beneath your favourite LBD in order to create a smooth and more flattering shape.

Cinch bottom tops are big this season, especially for those that have a more curvaceous figure. The loose fabric around your mid section will disguise any flaws.

When it comes to purchasing a summer dress, opt for one that has an a-line shape. Add an accessory such as a skinny belt in order to cinch in the waist, allowing the fabric to fall freely outwards, which will in turn hide fuller thighs. Choose a dress that has been created in a cool cotton fabric for the summer season and invest in a few in different shades. Team with statement jewellery and heels for an evening event, or pumps and a cutesy cardi for a more low-key daytime look.

At One Stop Plus they have a great range of items that show off our curves. Visit the site and you could find some great deals on dresses, tops and shirts.

Monday Funday

I was off work on Monday and I wanted to go home to Charlotte to visit my family and friends. I had to make up for not being able to visit my parents for their birthdays, Easter, or Mother's Day. My parents love this bakery in Greensboro, Maxie B's, so I bought their favorites: red velvet and pink lemonade cupcakes. Then went to Dixie Tavern with my friend Samora and her friend, Erica. Charlotte seems to be my escape from Greensboro.

Cheers to the Girls Weekend

Over the weekend I traveled to Atlanta with my one of my closest friends (and hair stylist), Preston. We took the Amtrak, which was my first and last time. That seven hour plus ride was full of stops, strange people, and boredom. I had so much in Hotlanta seeing all of the monuments, landmarks, stores, eateries, and meeting new people! I'm so excited to make Atlanta my permanent home come February!

Where did I go?
  • Joe's on Juniper
  • Einstein's
  • Club 708
  • Lenox Square
  • Gladys Knight and Ron Winan Chicken & Waffles
  • Thumbs Up
  • Velvet Room
  • Little Five Points
On Sunday at Velvet Room, I wore this fabulous Z. Cavaricci Couture White and Black Mesh Tube Dress provided by Torrid. I made a few adjustments to the dress by removing the sequin embellishment on the belt. I paired it with Torrid's Black Open Silky Jacket that I bought before my trip. I also wore the same jacket with a simple white tank and Black Side Sheer Leggings.
