Capes have hit the headlines in a big way over the last couple of years and during Winter 2011 they are set to be as popular as ever. They are stylish, sophisticated, elegant and just a little different from your everyday coat, so can plus size women pull them off too?
The problem with capes is that they tend to end around waist length – exactly where most of us plus size ladies would prefer to draw attention away from. Once you start shopping for capes it doesn't take long to notice that actually the cape comes in many shapes, styles and colors, so we think we can make it work for you.
Choosing the right style is the key and knowing which style will suit your frame is simple enough. Capes can do come with belts (great for pear-shaped women), but for larger ladies we would suggest a long-length cape, something that ends around the thigh to help elongate the body, creating height and a slimmer appearance.
Always go for lighter layers under a cape as you don’t want to appear too bulky; it is this that makes us feel that capes are better suited to the autumn and early spring as you might need those extra layers during the winter months - and warmth should really come before style for the sake of our health!
Remember it is you that wears the clothing, not the other way round. If you appear confident in your cape, you will look great. If it is clear that you feel awkward wearing this slightly different trend, it might not create a great style for you.
Teamed with jeans and heels, a cape in our mind looks really sophisticated. You can easily pull this off and there is no need to think that your shape prevents you from trying any trend. Plus size clothing specialists, in catalogue shopping and online stores especially, have increased rapidly in the last few years and they are excellent at providing plus size women with a much wider range of styles and on trend clothing.

Wearing a size 11 (sometimes a 12) makes it so hard to find fashionable, quality shoes. Nine West is one place that I can depend on! Their fall collection is amazing and they are doing a better job of staying on trend. (They're kind of matronly sometimes!) I added the "Aroundtown" pink suede platforms to my wishlist on the site last month. When I went into my local store at the Four Seasons Mall, I was so surprised that they even had them. I decided on the dark pink ones because I need a statement shoe instead of my usual black.
I've been waiting for this colorful strappy bandage dress to be available, instead of teasing me in the Forever 21+ banner. I added this dress to my wishlist yesterday and was praying that it would still be available today! Hot items like this don't stay in inventory for long. Of course I had to purchase it. Is anyone familiar with the plus dress fit? I purchased this in a 3X.
There's a crazy sale going on at Shop Mia's Closet. Take a peek !

I went to local rapper's (maybe not so local anymore), Bettie Grind, party during Fourth of July weekend at Morton's Steahkouse in Charlotte. There was a photographer there snapping photos and he gave me the card where to find the photos later. I searched for a month to see if they were ever posted and finally last night I found them via Facebook. I was so happy because I really wanted to see how I looked. It was a white and platinum party mind you and I'm wearing .... black! I wore my black Torrid t-shirt dress with my Sam Edelman Novatos. I never follow the rules. The party was lackluster, but I looked amazing.

Debuting in October, eloquii by The Limited, a fashion line for plus-size women will be available for all the fatshionistas out there! Their online store will feature a range of fashion apparel and accessories for plus-size women such as dresses, outerwear, pants, tops, shirts, and accessories. I am super excited for this line because I've loved The Limited, but could never wear anything from there. Being in the corporate world, I want to spice up my wardrobe with more options for work. Check out Gabi, blogger from Gabi Fresh, in this video.
