April Showers Brings May Flowers

The trend predictions for summer point to the floral dress as remaining one of the must-have items for the fun loving fatshionista. Take two of the hottest fashion trends, floral prints and sundresses, and put them together for the season's most exciting look. Floral dresses are both pretty and feminine, so unleash your girly girl in this sassy style. Finding stylish dresses that fit well can be difficult if you’re plus size because you don’t want a “loud” pattern that makes you appear even bigger.  Floral maxi dresses are a great selection for any occasion, from weddings to beach wear and lunch with the girls. Try wearing a floral dress with gladiator sandals and simple hoop earrings for a laid back summer look that’s totally on trend.

I’m still looking for that perfect floral party dress that stands out, but also flatters my body without bringing extra attention to mid-section. You can go super glam in a satin or chiffon material with a pastel floral print or edgy and bold with a body con floral print dress. Keep your accessories to a minimum to prevent competing with your dress.

As the temperatures rise, the airy floral sundress is the perfect piece. Pick ones made of chiffon, taffeta, organza, and other sheer fabrics to keep cool in scorching hot temperatures. Details such as buttons, ruffles, one sleeve, and embroidery add a special touch.

I absolutely love the high-low dresses that I’ve seen online and several stores. I like the analogy to a mullet – “sassy in the front, classy in the back.” Along with their unique hemline, these dresses are also very versatile. For a simple day outing you can match them with a cute pair of strappy flat sandals, and maybe add a denim vest to the look. However, they can also be worn to parties with a pair of heels, bold bangles, and a statement clutch.

The floor sweeping maxi will forever be a classic. The history of floral maxi dress dates back to the 70s when wearing floral print was a big style statement. The trend of these floral prints became a hit when that period’s conventional “flower children” wore them. No matter your height, a floor length maxi has to be in your wardrobe for this summer.

While some ladies opt for airy maxi dresses others will definitely want to show more of their bodies and trendy minis. Every girl must have a short floral frock in her closet.

Keep these tips in mind when buying your flirty floral dress for this summer.

Memorial Day Weekend

I planned on doing nothing for Memorial Day Weekend simply because my 24th birthday is the following weekend. I was extremely bored Sunday and was lured into coming with a short phone call from my friend Samora. She told me to "rinse my mouth with mouthwash and come on!" I brushed my teeth, threw 2 days of clothes in my Victoria Secret suitcase, and made a mad dash out of the house. I know my neighbors always wonder why I'm constantly on the go. I didn't even stop for gas until the half-way point between Greensboro and Charlotte - Salisbury. I went to the Maz Memorial Day Weekend party at Maggiano's South Park, which was very last minute. I always have a good time at their events and this one was no different. Saw a ton of old friends from college that I haven't seen in a while. I can tell a difference with the weight loss in my waist area, thighs, and the small of my back. I was disappointed that I didn't go to any cookouts on Memorial Day, but I had a fabulous sushi date with my friend at Cowfish. Later that afternoon, I hung out with my best friend from high school at a local man-made lake. Overall, my weekend was relaxing and fun. I can't wait for my birthday festivities this weekend. (As you can see, I have new hair! I had my sew-in redone on Saturday with 24" that I ombred myself.)

Big Girl Bra Blues

Did you know that 85% of women are wearing the wrong size bra? You can instantly appear 10 pounds lighter by wearing the right size bra. The right bra will smooth those love handles, improve posture, and prevent front spillage. Fatshionistas, please do not be cheap when it comes to your undergarments. The old saying you get what you pay for is very true when shopping for a bra. Visit your local department store or my personal favorite Lane Bryant and get professionally fitted for a good support and/or minimizer bra. For plus size women, wearing the right bra not only makes you look slimmer but your clothes will fit you better. I worked at Lane Bryant for the holidays and was fitted for a bra. I was wearing the wrong cup size and need way more coverage. The right bra made a total difference underneath my clothes. (If you love these featured bras as much as I do, click the photos to purchase them!)

The biggest struggle is finding sexy, flirty, and trendy undergarments. If you ever feel frustrated with the range of plus size lingerie available in shops then it’s time to discover the beautiful ladies’ underwear in larger sizes at Plus Size Lingerie. Pretty in Pink

Whenever I have a day off I try to get dolled up and run a few errands. I've been dying to wear my Pink Daisy Crochet Bed Jacket from Torrid, but never knew what to pair it with. I opted for a black camisole, black sheer side panel leggings, nude Mia lace-up gladiators, and Snob lips (my favorite MAC lipstick ever). Friday, I bought a Birkin-esque bag from Francesca's Collection. It's so ironic because I had this purse two years ago and repurchased it. It's the perfect size and has great interior organization. I also purchased two pairs of heels from Nine West during their Family and Friends sale, where I scored 20% off. Two pairs of heels for $126. I was so shocked they had a size 12 in both of my selections. One will be saved for my 24th birthday, which is in 21 days!

A Fat Girl's Guide to Swimsuit Shopping

Finding that perfect swimsuit for the summer sits in the back of my head all winter. The most important thing to keep in mind when purchasing your suit is fit! Make the fit of the swimsuit your first priority and you will have better success at feeling confident at this summer's pool party or Miami vacay. It's important to know what flatters your body. Look for a suit that offers you great fit, coverage, comfort and style. For a plus sized woman, many new cuts on the market are designed to give you just that. The selection of plus size suits is growing, and you don’t have to settle for something that looks like a tent.

Marisota has a plethora of swimwear selections to help you feel like the model you are. Show off your curves and feel confident when doing so! One of my favorite fatshion bloggers, Gabi, rocked this chevaron bikini bottom and top while on her trip in Vegas (read her post Fatkini 2021 here). The high-waisted style hides the tummy and also has a pin-up retro look.

Small details like ruching create a slimming silhouette and hides our love handles. This silhoutte bandeau swimsuit in violet is perfect. The detachable straps make this suit ideal for sunbathing or to amp up the sexy factor.
I love a one-shoulder feature and this Panache Sophia bandeau swimsuit is amazing. This glamorous one-shoulder swimsuit has a detachable strap and front knot detail and gathering for a great shape. Keeping the theme of support and shame in mind, this suit also has lined cups and wings give anchorage and support around the body.

Trend Alert: Cropped Pants

Legs are one of the areas that we all fear in the summer, so why don't you ease into it by exposing a little ankle cleavage in the latest trend, the cropped pant. The cropped pants style is effortless and ultra-chic. The novelty of this trend is that it's so versatile and so many different looks can be created - day or night, casual or dressy. European plus size brand, Bon Marche, has a variety ranging from linens, denim, to sweatpants. My absolute favorites from Bon Marche are the electric blue pant, which is right on trend with colorblocking. These would look amazing with a yellow blazer and platform wedges. My other favorites are the striped seersucker cropped trouser. Nothing says summer like seersucker and these cropped pants are such a classic look.

Walk Down The Aisle

Yesterday, was Monday Funday, something I never get to experience because I'm a workaholic. All the pretty clothes in my closet never get to worn. I finally got to wear my black crochet chiffon top and the amazing Little Black Skinny Pants from Torrid. I was lured in by the bright lights and neon colors of the make-up aisle at Rite Aid. After hearing rave reviews about Maybelline Baby Lips, I decided to finally purchase one. I chose Cherry Me out of the other three flavors - peppermint, grape, and pink punch. I didn't know it was tinted until I saw the faint red on my lips. It really makes the lip super soft, but the sheer read color isn't flattering on my skin tone. The tinted balm is something I think is necessary for your summer makeup bag because it has SPF 20.
