Mini-Vacay to the "A"

Long hair, don't care is back in full effect! I received a lot of tweets and Instagram comments about my hair, but I wanted to wait to post the information here on my blog. I ordered my hair from Luvin Hair Products, which is a vendor on Alie Express. I ordered four bundles of 24", 26", and two 28" for $281, which is a super inexpensive price compared to $600+ if I would've purchased from someone who sells hair. I was super skeptical considering I had a previous bad weave experience and was very indecisive (I canceled the order and uncanceled it). I read about 200 reviews and there were very few bad ones. All hair sheds, I don't care what the vendor says. But this hair is super soft and manageable. Tara, salon owner of Royalty Beauty Bar in Charlotte, installed my hair using the net technique, which protects my natural hair. I haven't had any tangling problems yet.

I took the Megabus to Atlanta over the weekend for a well needed mini-vacay. Saturday morning,I went to the Cumberland mall to do some shopping at the Forever 21+ and get a mani/pedi. I purchased a black and red bandage dress, a leopard body con skirt, and some royal blue American Apparel-esque leggings. Later that day, we went to Lenox Mall so I could find a black shoe, but I didn't find anything and ended up going back to Cumberland to get the Nine West "Icelander." I wore my high low oversized top from ASOS Curve, which I'm super in love with. It's so comfy and I feel like one of the Olsen twins. To end the night, I went to Aja - a restuarant in the day and club at night. I wore a sexy, black and neon strappy bandage dress from Forever 21+. Sunday, I was able to sleep in and go have brunch at Thumbs Up Diner in Midtown. To walk off the calories from brunch, we headed to Atlantic Station and I still had an hour to kill before it was time for me to hit the road back to Charlotte, so we strolled through Piedmont Park where an arts festival was happening. It was the perfect trip for my mind, body, and soul. Can't wait to make my permanent move to the A

Fatshionably Chic in the Office

Dressing to impress is just as important in the office as it is on a night out and with so much choice available, it can be difficult to know which items will best suit a fuller figure. It's always important to buy the right size: squeezing into a smaller size will just make you feel uncomfortable, and clothes that are too big for you will just hang off you in an unflattering way. Throw in a few confusing office dress codes, and you've got a recipe for disaster!

Business Professional
When selecting formal business wear, choose jackets with wide shoulders, as these will make your waist appear smaller in comparison, helping to achieve the classic hour-glass figure. A-line skirts that finish just above the knee can make legs appear longer, and wedge heels can make ankles seem slimmer; if wearing trousers, boot cuts or light flares are usually flattering styles on plus size ladies. Select fitted blouses with short, but not capped, sleeves, preferably in a style that sits outside the trousers waistline, rather than being tucked in.

Business Casual
For women requiring casual business wear, it’s best to avoid large stripes of any kind. Smaller, more intricate patterns or any prints, including floral and polka dot, will usually be most flattering. While it’s true that darker colours can be slimming, they can also draw attention to lumps and bumps that you might prefer were over-looked. Ask friends, family or a coloring specialist to discover which shades best suit you, and stick to those for your tops, leaving darker colours to skirts and trousers. If your upper body is very curvy, you may prefer to avoid silk, satin, or similar fabrics, as they can be very unforgiving. Cotton tops that are fitted under the bust and flow down over the waist will help you to make the most of your fuller figure; wearing a properly fitted bra will help, too.
Casual
In a more casual workplace or at offices that celebrate casual Fridays, for example, you have even more variety. A patterned wrap-around dress can look good with low-heeled sandals in summer or knee-high boots in winter. If dresses aren't your thing, leggings can be coupled with long tops, providing the leggings are plain, not patterned, and darker in color than the top. Adding a belt can help emphasize your waist.
In all scenarios, stay away from shapeless garments, such as shift dresses and knitwear. Your clothes should work with your figure, not against it.

Fatshionista Files: Jeka & Jeke

Jeka and Jeke Ramos, their names are an abbreviation of their full names, are curvy 24-year-old identical twin stylists from the Big Apple - New York City. Although these sisters are twins, their styles are very different. Jeka majored in fashion design and dedicates her time in designing chic one of a kind pieces to her clients and some of her own. Jeke majored in fashion merchandising and marketing, so of course she loves all aspects of fashion even the branding. Read Diary of a Fatshionista's interview with the lovely sisters of La Maison Deux.

Explain your blog name.
The direct translation of La Maison Deux, its French for The House of Two. Two for twins. Designers, usually couture designers, often call their design studio a house. Such as House of Dior. Its where everything fashion is created and alas came about La Maison Deux.

Describe your personal style.
Though we are identical twins are styles are distinct. Jeke has a more classic style that's timeless and ethereal and Jeka has more of an edge, tailored/structured pieces and leather/skin are her thing. Though its great to stay on trend, we don't follow them, we wear whatever our creative spirits tells us to and that is style all on its own.

Where do you shop?
We shop anywhere clothes are available! We do a lot of online shopping, our favorites thus far are ASOS Curve+ or Simply Be. NYC is filled with stores that cater to our fashion needs and sizes you just have to go find them, Forever 21,  H&M for mainstream, and Harlem has lots of shops with fashion forward garments. We also like to thrift in our mother's closet and consignment shops. That's actually the best way to go because clothes were cut bigger in previous decades so you'll be surprised at what will fit you.

Jeka
What does being a fatshionista mean to you?
For us Fashion is universal whether you're fat, thin, tall or short. It's a way for us to express our individuality. We want to break this societal code that certain groups of people can't wear certain fashions and YOU CAN! All you need to do is make it your own and strut that sidewalk with confidence.

What's your advice to other plus size girls?
Take risks! A lot of our followers and friends alike are so afraid to try new things and its because someone else told them not to be different. You'd be surprised as to what looks great on you but you'll never know if you don't try. That's also goes for anything in life. Get out of your comfort zone!

Where do you draw fashion inspiration?
Our fashion inspiration is a combination of many things. It derives from our mother and her style when she was our age, from our culture, from where we grew up and from true fashion legends such as Carolina Herrera and Alexander McQueen. We take all of those elements and make our style our own.

What's your best beauty secret?
BRONZER! Every woman should have bronzer in their makeup kit. It has so many uses. You can contour your face, get those sexy high cheekbones and enhance your cleavage or give you a sunny vacation glow while its winter time.
Jeke

What's your favorite piece in your wardrobe?
A tailored black blazer, its a piece that you can dress up and dress down. You can put it over a white t shirt and look super chic. Its our go-to piece.

What's a trend you foresee/love for the summer?
Colorful denim! A few years ago, all the men had colored skinnies and now the women have it and IT'S ABOUT TIME. Denim is timeless and adding a different element to like different colors just gives your wardrobe a lot more variety. More variety equals more outfits. Who doesn't love that?

Love these girls as much as I do? Stay connected with them.

Ivie Rose Boutique Giveaway

I haven't done a giveaway in a while, so I wanted the next giveaway to be something different. I love to showcase and support up and coming entrepreneurs, so this giveaway does just that. I stumbled upon Ivie Rose Boutique on Instagram and saw a super sexy black dress (I'll be reviewing later this month) and after a few e-mails, we decided to do a giveaway for my fatshionistas!
